CGI – An Approach to Perfection

I am a creative mind. I love imperfection and I love perfection. I love dark and moody images with blurry elements, a lack of focus or overexposed and with unrecognisable elements. I love the exposure to the elements, rain, heat, storm and the unpredictiveness.

On the other hand, I love clear graphical lines, minimalism and perfection in every detail. A computer is the tool of my choice when my brain craves for uncreative creativity.

The series Micado, Needle, Hook and Dices consists of four computer generated images (CGI) that I created in 2016. CGI can be both a combination of real photographs combined with computer generated elements as well as images purely created on a computer system. The images in this series are of the latter category; none of what you see in these images are real objects. Both ‘flying’ objects as well as backgrounds are entirely computer simulated and rendered.

The Fascination for Creating from Bits and Bytes

The fascination of CGI lies in both its capabilities of turning virtual bits and bytes into something ‘tangible’ for our minds to perceive as a ‘real’ image as well as the challenge of applying the right techniques and procedures that create a photorealistic impression to the viewer.

The latter is the most challenging part of this very special image creating process. It is difficult to implement imperfections into the final image to a certain amount, but imperfections are indeed the most essential part that make an image look natural.
